Surviving the Baby Boomers Exodus

While many people are worried about what the year 2012 might bring to the world as we know it - thanks to Hollywood's movie '2012' and the so-called Mayan prophecies, businesses will be far more worried about 2011. Why 2011? The first of the Baby Boomers will turn 65 in 2011 and will begin retiring. Baby Boomers make up more of the U.S. work force -- 38 percent -- than any other age group.
Boomers were born between 1946 and 1964, and are 46 to 65 years old. The book details how to capture their work knowledge before they retire, a process that can take a few hours to many months, depending on the job skills and if the knowledge is tacit or implicit. Tacit knowledge, such as explaining how to ride a bike, can take a lot more time.
In the book readers will find that this is not simply a question of replacing Boomers with younger workers. After all, Generation Y, born between 1980 and 1995, has population numbers nearly equal to the Boomers. But the loss of Boomers' expertise and institutional knowledge could be catastrophic to American business.
So what steps can companies take to retain and transfer the knowledge and experience that will walk out the door as these workers retire? The fundamental issue is training, and the smartest companies are already planning for this as the next major challenge in the workforce.
Capturing, transferring and retaining Baby Boomers' knowledge, skills and expertise before they retire will enable Generations X and Y employees to maintain business continuity. The skill and expertise of 76 million Baby Boomers is too critical to waste!

Just what was on that note Lindsay Lohan flashed at her trial?

During her court hearing on Tuesday, Lindsay Lohan was seen taking diligent notes in red pen, and now a high resolution shot of her jottings has made its way to the web, revealing Lohan to have ... well, an astute ear for detail and absolutely fantastic penmanship.
Cameras got a clear shot of the notes when Lohan used them to cover her face. In the meticulously detailed document, Lohan appears to respond to her alleged malfeasance, listing where she was and when she made up each absence from her alcohol education classes.
Robert Rodriquez's - Machete trailer
20th Century Fox has revealed the new trailer for 'Machete,' which is based on the "fake" trailer in Robert Rodriguez's 2007 'Grindhouse,' featuring Danny Trejo and Jeff Fahey reprising their original roles.
Directed by Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis, the action film also stars Jessica Alba, Robert De Niro, Michelle Rodriguez, Lindsay Lohan, Cheech Marin, Don Johnson and Steven Seagal.
Lohan, who was sentenced to 90 days in jail earlier this week, was prominently featured in an early trailer of the film. This go round, you would have to squint to see her name in the credits.
The feature version of the trailer finds Machete (played by Trejo) a renegade former Mexican Federale, roaming the streets of Texas after a shakedown from drug lord Torrez (played by Seagal). Reluctantly, Machete takes an offer from spin doctor Benz (played by Fahey) to assassinate McLaughlin (played by De Niro) a corrupt Senator. Double crossed and on the run Machete braves the odds with the help of Luz (played by Michelle Rodriguez), a saucy taco slinger, Padre (played by Marin) his "holy" brother, and April (played by Lohan) a socialite with a penchant for guns. All while being tracked by Sartana (played by Alba), a sexy ICE agent with a special interest in the blade slinger.
The film comes out on September 3.

Dan Gilbert Blast Lebron James in an Open Letter to the Fans

Well someone was a bit hot under the collar and if you ask me a sore looser yesterday after Lebron James announced that he will be playing for the Miami Heat next season. And why not, Cleveland hasn't won the championship and that's what Lebron wants on his resume of career triumphs. Dan Gilbert's letter reminds me of an employer who is upset at a employee looking out for themselves and doing what is best for their career. To Lebron I say "good luck, hope you get a championship. But as for the whole televised broadcast, you need to think a little less about yourself and take that ego down a few thousand notches." To Dan Gilbert I say "Come on get over it. The man was one of your best players and your team just didn't cut it so after several years of waiting on a championship, the man chose to move on - next chapter in his life. I'm sure you'd do the same damn thing if you had that kind of talent."
The letter in its entirety:
Dear Cleveland, All Of Northeast Ohio and Cleveland Cavaliers Supporters Wherever You May Be Tonight;
As you now know, our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier.
This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his "decision" unlike anything ever "witnessed" in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment.
Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us.
The good news is that the ownership team and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown Cavaliers have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you.
There is so much more to tell you about the events of the recent past and our more than exciting future. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be communicating much of that to you.
You simply don't deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal.
You have given so much and deserve so much more.
In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight:
"I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER 'KING' WINS ONE"
You can take it to the bank.
If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our "motivation" to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.
Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.
Sorry, but that's simply not how it works.
This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown "chosen one" sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And "who" we would want them to grow-up to become.
But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called "curse" on Cleveland, Ohio.
The self-declared former "King" will be taking the "curse" with him down south. And until he does "right" by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma.
Just watch.
Sleep well, Cleveland.
Tomorrow is a new and much brighter day....
I PROMISE you that our energy, focus, capital, knowledge and experience will be directed at one thing and one thing only:
DELIVERING YOU the championship you have long deserved and is long overdue ...

Betty White is Red Hot - and with a New Calender fort 2011

Golden year. The Betty White 2011 calendar will be available in September for $12.99. Photos: AP (2)
Betty White may be 88 but she is about to prove she really is still a wild thing!
The actress is capping off the day in which she received a much deserved Emmy nomination for her appearance as the oldest -- and might we say funniest -- "Saturday Night Live" host in history by announcing her next role: Calendar pinup girl!
The last surviving "Golden Girl" tells the BBC she's created a 2011 calendar to benefit the Morris Animal Foundation, which supports research on animal health and welfare.
The charity pictorial includes photos of the longtime animal activist posing with beloved creatures from the critter and human kingdom in a manner that will permanently seal her cougar reputation.
One shot features White reclining in a poolside chaise and being served by three shirtless, greased-up hunks dressed only in their Skivvies. Some of her favorite pets, maybe?
White, who is now starring in TVLand's aptly named "Hot in Cleveland," says all proceeds from the $12.99 calendar -- due in September -- will benefit the foundation.
