Apple Tablet tipped for October announce, $800 tag

The iPhone 3GS managed to distract attention from the regular Apple Tablet rumors, but thanks to the China Times speculation is back with a vengeance.  The paper is claiming  that the device will arrive in October this year, priced at around $800, and – like we heard back in May  – use Wintek capacitive touchscreens.

Other manufacturers involved include Foxconn and Dynapack, the report continues, and suggests that Apple will unsurprisingly position their device as a premium model rather than a direct competitor to touchscreen netbooks such as the ASUS Eee PC T91.  While it will be announced in October, they claim, it may ship a little later; Apple are tipped to be looking to corner the holiday market with the new device.

The Apple Tablet (aka Apple Media Pad, aka Apple Netbook) was rumored to make an appearance at the WWDC back in March, but failed to materialize.  Apple traditionally announce their new iPod range in September, so the October rumors indicate the Tablet could be a more distinct product line.

'Dollhouse' exclusive: Joss Whedon talks about EW's 'Epitaph One' first-look images

The long-awaited 13th episode of Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse, the post-apocalyptic "Epitaph One," will debut July 24 at Comic-Con, then on the season 1 DVD and Blu-ray July 28. In the issue of EW out today, we have the first look at SPOILER ALERT! Caroline (Eliza Dushku), who, having escaped for some time, is seen in the top photo entering an abandoned Dollhouse in the year 2019 with Paul (Tahmoh Penikett). 

We also have an EW.com exclusive photo of SPOILER ALERT! Whiskey (Amy Acker), who has been left behind in the Dollhouse in a "wiped" state. She is discovered by a group of rebels (including Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog's Felicia Day), which you see in the clip below. 

Fox had declined to air "Epitaph One," which Whedon says was designed to either close out the series or to lead into the second season (which premieres Sept. 25). "So you will find out snippets of everything and all of nothing," Whedon tells EW. "Every flashback answers something about where people are heading but brings up a lot more questions about where they end up or how they got there." (Whedon says the season 2 opener he's writing and directing won't pick up right where the May season 1 finale left off, with "We've got to find Alpha!", but a little bit later.)

Though he would've loved to have seen "Epitaph One" air on TV, Whedon understands Fox's decision to save it for the DVD. "It has a very different structure and feel from what we do onDollhouse, so it would have been ridiculously startling to have aired it the week after the season finale as just this insane coda," he says. "And it is a little bit insane, except that we sort of follow everything through to its logical conclusion. As always, it's logical to conclude that people are terrible and will try to destroy each other."

Jackson's Glove Hid Disease

Michael Jackson's sequined white glove became a signature fashion item for the King of Pop, but according to a friend of Jackson, it was really used to cloak the early stages of his skin disease.

Actress Cicely Tyson, a longtime friend of Jackson, says that she shared a fashion designer with the pop star in the '80s, and saw him design the glove.

"All of a sudden, he said, 'I'm doing this glove for Michael.' Michael was beginning to develop the vitiligo and it started on his hand. The glove was to cover the vitiligo; that's how that glove came into being," Tyson said during an interview with Larry King.

"I was there when he was creating it," she said.

Vitiligo is a disease that causes the skin to lighten in blotches. In a recent interview, Jackson's dermatologist Dr. Arnold Klein said that Jackson's particular case "was bad because he began to get a speckled look over his body ... All over his body -- but on his face and hands, which is hard to treat."

Jim Carrey Will Be a Grandfather

Jim Carrey's rock musician daughter Jane Carrey is expecting her first child. "I am very excited," Jim, 47, says in a statement. "Jane is going to be a great mom." His 21-year-old daughter, who sings for the Jane Carrey Band, is having the baby with her fiancé, Alex Santana of the rock band Blood Money. Jane is the Liar Liar star's daughter with his first wife Melissa.
