Why Ashton Kusher "hates Valentine's Day."

Demi Moore, who once said that falling in love with Ashton Kutcher "caught us both by surprise," might also be shocked to learn that her husband dislikes the year's most romantic day.

"I hate Valentine's Day," Kutcher told Parade magazine. But he doesn't hate the lovey-dovey sentiment that is celebrated every Feb. 14: In fact, he feels quite the opposite.

"I think every day should be a day of romance," he said. "Then, on Valentine's Day, you should get to tell whoever you hate that you cannot stand them. There would be one day of hating, and 364 days of love."

Kutcher, who plays a florist who unexpectedly finds love in the upcoming movie "Valentine's Day," may have developed his disdain for the holiday as early as the third grade.

"There was this girl who sat in front of me who had the prettiest super-long hair," he said. "I was absolutely infatuated with her." But he experienced rejection when he gave the girl a very direct Valentine's Day, which read "Kiss Me."

"The tragedy was that she didn't get the point and I never got kissed," said Kutcher of his early disappointment.

Still the star's romantic streak has survived.

"I think the most romantic thing that I've done is travel a long way to another country for like an hour to see someone I loved and then turn around and go back because I had a commitment I couldn't cancel," he told Parade. "So it was literally not sleeping for two days, going through hell, just to see somebody for an hour."

Awwwww!

Death at the Vancouver Olympics... Did The Media go to far in what they've shown?

Of course on every news channel yesterday lead into the Olympics in Vancouver with the story about the tragedy surrounding the death of Nodar Kumaritashvili, the young 21 year old luger who was set to compete at this years Olympics but who had died after a terrible training crash at Whistler just a few hours earlier.

It's not the reporting of the incident that bothers me but the fact that in a day and age where youtube and video uploads exist, there tends to be this "it's alright for us to show it on the television over and over" attitude that is so prevalent. I get that it's news and if they don't report it then they could "gasp" be outdone by a youtuber or the like, but just how far have we come in this day of information overload? How desensitized are we? Yes, in their defense the media outlets do warn us that "the images that we are about to see are a bit much and we might want to turn away..." but that's like asking a kid in a candy store to not look at the candy once he's entered the store. We're human and as such we are curious.

Years ago we would never think about playing such horrible accidents on television even if we had the footage and newspapers didn't put such graphic scenes onto the front page of their newspapers. Forgive me but I just can't accept this SHOCK mentality. If you ask me I feel that such things should be kept out and off the television. If not for common decency how about for the saddened family members who not only have to bury a son but who thanks to the internet and viral uploads, will have to see these shocking images played out for years to come - over and over.

In writing this blog I thought to myself how could I best show to you who Nodar was and of course I could have given you all the most common picture to headline this blog that of which shows him in midair before the accident as can be seen over almost all media outlets, some even headlining with his body actually striking the pole. But instead I choose to lead with a more honest approach. One that shows a young man ready to compete in a most honorable and historical event.

I'm not as naive as to believe that we will ever go back to the times of real journalism that was more about the story and less about shocking people to get ratings but one can dream right? My heart goes out to the family of this young luger who I'm sure would have brought them many years of happiness had his life not been cut short - gone to soon.

This is why I LOVE Kelly Clarkson!

Ok, by now most of you have heard about Taylor Swift's not to swift performance at the Grammy's. Yes, I love the little kitten but I too must admit she was a we bit off tune. (Perhaps she could have used some auto-tune?) Now I'mma let you all finish but first I want you to see what her label had to say - and then why I LOVE Kelly Clarkson!

Big Machine Records head Scott Borchetta said, in part, of Taylor, “”She is the voice of this generation. She speaks directly to [her fans], and they speak directly back to her. This is not American Idol. This is not a competition of getting up and seeing who can sing the highest note. This is about a true artist and writer and communicator. It’s not about that technically perfect performance.”

“Maybe,” he went on, “she’s not the best technical singer, but she’s probably the best emotional singer because everybody else who gets up there and is technically perfect, people don’t seem to want more of it.”

This afternoon on her blog, Clarkson posted the following note:

“Wow …..Dear Scott Borchetta,

I understand defending your artist obviously because I have done the same in the past for artists I like, including Taylor, so you might see why its upsetting to read you attacking American Idol for producing simply vocalists that hit ‘the high notes’. Thank you for that ‘Captain Obvious’ sense of humor because you know what, we not only hit the high notes, you forgot to mention we generally hit the ‘right’ notes as well. Every artist has a bad performance or two and that is understandable, but throwing blame will not make the situation at hand any better.

I have been criticized left and right for having shaky performances before (and they were shaky) and what my manager or label executives say to me and the public is “I’ll kick butt next time” or “every performance isn’t going to be perfect” ……I bring this up because you should take a lesson from these people and instead of lashing out at other artists (that in your ‘humble’ opinion lack true artistry), you should simply take a breath and realize that sometimes things won’t go according to plan or work out and that’s okay.

Sincerely,

One of those contestants from American Idol who only made it because of her high notes”

And that is truly what I LOVE about this beautiful singer. She has the guts to say exactly what she means and her thoughts are so well presented. I second her thoughts to the executive and might add that he may need to think about a change of careers because if he can't take the heat he should get OUT of the kitchen!

Where's the Snow?

Today I slept in and didn't get up at 6am to get ready for my normal walk to the gym to work out.
You want to know why? Because all week the news was screaming that this "snow storm" was coming
(kinda like the sky is falling) and even up to today they are going on and on and showing all their
fancy maps which clearly show the area that I live in with 2-6 inches of snow and guess what,
I just got in from getting my morning coffee and morning sandwich special that I normally catch
on my way back from the gym and there is NO SNOW WHATSOEVER!

I mean come on all this hype for NOTHING and I missed out on a workout. Another reason why
I just have to stick with the old saying "seeing is believing". For the people in Jersey who actually
got snow and by that I mean 12 inches or 2-3 feet - How I wish I was you today.
