Lovers of Quidditch and Hogwarts banded together this past weekend to support Haiti relief efforts. The "Harry Potter Alliance" raised $34,000 through a live webcast. All of the proceeds went to Partners in Health, one of the major nonprofits helping earthquake victims in Haiti.
For four hours Potter fans enjoyed musical performances from Harry Potter inspired bands like "Harry and the Potters" and "Draco and the Malfoys." Viewers received prizes based on their donations and watched interviews from Haitian-Americans. Over 200 prizes were awarded but a full set of Harry Potter novels with a card from J.K. Rowling herself was amongst the most coveted. Fans of other science fiction franchiseslike True Blood and Heroes also contributed to the fund. You can contribute to the Harry Potter Alliance fund through Helping Haiti Heal!.
