ABC Cancels 'Eastwick,'

'Eastwick' will no longer cast a spell on ABC.

The network has reportedly chosen not to order any additional episodes of the bewitching series, starring Rebecca Romijn, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

In the meantime, ABC says that it will finish filming the remaining episodes under the show's 13-episode order. These episodes will in fact see the light of day -- at some point, anyway.

Eastwick has already been bumped for the next two weeks. The CMA Awards will air this Wednesday, followed by an exclusive interview with Janet Jackson on Nov. 18. That means the first of the six remaining episodes wouldn't even hit our screens until at least Nov. 25, assuming ABC sticks to its current schedule.

Considering that ABC is building a pretty strong lineup of shows on Wednesdays ('Modern Family'; 'Cougar Town'), it might not be a bad idea to think about replacing 'Eastwick' immediately.

There lies the question: If ABC were to move 'Eastwick,' where would it go? And more importantly: What would replace it on the schedule? Eventually, the network will run out of interviews and awards shows to fill the immediate void. So, why not consider a potentially life-saving switch with 'Ugly Betty'?

Fridays have become a dumping ground for shows (just ask 'Betty.' last week, the show drew in a measly 4.8 million viewers, after a previous all-time low). And with 'Eastwick' already getting the boot, it can't hardly do much worse than 'Betty' is doing now. So, why not give 'Betty' another shot in a new time slot, if only to see whether the old girl still has some life left in her? She did just get a new makeover after all.

  1. IT NEVER FAILS ANYMORE. WHEN YOU GET USED TO A SHOW THEY YANK IT OFF THE AIR. WHAT HAPPEN TO GIVING A SHOW TIME TO BUILD AN AUDIENCE. I LOVED EASTWICK. I WATCHED THE WENSDAY LINEUP JUST BECAUSE IT CAME ON BEFORE EASTWICK. I LOVE COUGAR TOWN. BUT I'M ABOUT COMPLETELY TURNED OFF OF ABC. THE EXECS WHO ARE MAKING THESE CHOOSES NEED TO REALIZE THERE IS A MARKET FOR HOUSEWIVES, NOT JUST TEENS AND YOUNG ADULTS OUT THERE. WE WATCH TV TOO!!!!!!

  2. Oh both networks suck. They cancel the shows the viewers like. They pay attention to all the wrong demographics. They are not paying attention to the people that actually watch TV. The reality shows they keep are pure junk and cancel the great memorable shows. They never give the good shows a chance to grow like they use to. The stupid reality shows are fixed from the beginning.

  4. Truly a shame. Eastwick has so much promise. Too bad ABC can't give it a real chance to find its audience. If profits are the only reason for their existence, maybe the network should switch to an all info-mercial format and be done with it.

    First question to ABC.

    Why is Eastwick being canceled?

I was excited that this show was coming to the fall lineup, and I have watched it every week. So what is ABC's problem?

Why do the adults suffer with ABC taking a show like Eastwick off the air? Put it a different time slot. How many crime shows do you need, we need programs like Eastwick to make us laugh (because it is funny). The actors on this show are one of the reasons I do watch it.

To all the fans of Eastwick, don't give up they can't deny the show is good, they must have had a bad hair day or something..

  6. For anyone that didn't give it a chance, Eastwick was REALLY good and I am very upset this new show has already been cancelled. The writers had a very fresh twist on comedy-lots of great lines that would catch me by surprise and the cast (especially Rebecca, Lindsey, and "Derek") was engaging and hilarious. It always seems like the best new shows always get cancelled (re: Cane, Jericho, etc.) before even given a fair chance. I am completely disappointed with ABC.

  7. I don't understand why ABC keeps canceling good shows. I like
Eastwick and think that it's perfect where it is. I mean come on -
these days if a show hasn't garnered high ratings in like it's first
few episodes they are writing them off. Forgetting that shows like
Seinfeld took time to become hits! I say give Eastwick a chance and
if anyone finds a site where we can protest and ask for it to be
    saved to let me know!
