Michaela Watkins 'shocked' by 'SNL' firing

Bitch, pleeeeze. That sums up my reaction to the news that Saturday Night Live has dropped the hilarious Michaela Watkins from the cast. In just one short year, Watkins gave birth to a slew of memorable characters and impersonations, most notably bitchpleeze.com blogger Angie Tempura and Today’s Hoda Kotb. (Watkins’ co-star Casey Wilson was also axed.) What the heck was Lorne Michaels thinking?

Laura Leighton on Melrose Place’s Shocking Twist

There were plenty of twists and turns on Tuesday’s premiere episode of the CW’s revamped Melrose Place. SPOILER ALERT: And the biggest of all was the shocking death of Laura Leighton’s returning character Sydney Andrews, whose lifeless body was discovered floating in the famed apartment complex’s pool.

But is Sydney, who was already killed off on the original Melrose Place — back in 1997, she was hit by a car on her wedding day — really dead this time? “As far as I know,” Leighton says.

The actress, who filmed her latest TV death in the spring, had to keep her lips sealed all summer about Sydney’s fate. “It’s been difficult, but it was an important secret to keep,” says Leighton, 41. “It’s a lot easier now that the cat is completely out of the bag.”

Fear not, Sydney fans: Leighton says that while Sydney might be dead, she’s still going to appear on the show throughout the season in flashbacks. “I thought it was a interesting way to tell the story and fill in the blanks,” she says. “It’s moving forward while moving backwards, so we’ll see where it takes us.”

And she and Thomas Calabro, who returned as Michael Mancini, won’t be the only former Melrose castmates to make an appearance on the new show. “Their concept is to add other characters from the old Melrose and dot them in here and there where the stories make sense,” she says. “They want to spread them out and show how each of the old characters’ lives entwine with the new characters. “

Before her sudden demise, Leighton managed to enjoy a small cougar moment when the script called for Sydney to pounce on her younger male costar Shaun Sipos (who plays David Breck, the estranged son of Thomas Calabro’s Michael Mancini). “Of course they’re going to have to pair Sydney up with a younger guy. You know, I don’t write it!” she says, laughing. “I think the nature of Sydney’s character is using sex. It’s all part of her plan.”

Leighton is married to Desperate Housewives’ Doug Savant, who played Matt Fielding on the original Melrose Place. So how does has Savant feel about his wife kissing younger men? “I don’t think he would have any room to say, ‘Hey, hey, hey!’ He’s on a show that has enough of that!” says Leighton. “I think he understands the nature of the beast and it’s all silly at the end of the day. But it’s not a bad way to spend the day at work.”

'Life' Star Fired for Religious Beliefs?

'One Life to Live' actress Patricia Mauceri says she was let go from the soap opera not because of plot points or poor performance, but because of her religious beliefs.

Mauceri, who was on 'OLTl' for 14 years, claims that she was let go from 'Life' because she objected to a gay storyline that had been written for her character. She tells FOX News that when she brought up her questions towards the storyline due to her devout Christian beliefs which helped sculpt her Carlotta Vega character, she was replaced.

The 59-year-old Mauceri says that she "did not object to being in a gay storyline. I objected to speaking the truth of what that person, how that person would live and breathe and act in that storyline ... And this goes against everything I am, my belief system, and what I know the character's belief system is aligned to."

The scene at the center of the issue was one involving what FOX calls "gay-friendly dialogue."

Mauceri tells FOX that she's considering legal options regarding her termination.

An ABC spokesperson told FOX that they weren't aware of any claims of firing due to religious beliefs. Should such claims surface, however, the spokesperson said they "would be frivolous."

Ouch! Kristin Davis' Fashion Show is Canceled and Clothing Line Shuttered

Sex may be in the city, but Kristin Davis' fashion line will not!

Belk department stores and Davis have pulled the plug on her namesake collection of sportswear and accessories that was sold exclusively at Belk, in turn canceling the collection's runway debut at the Style360 venue during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York on Sunday, September 13. (Less than a week away.)

The Kristin Davis Collection for Belk stores has been available since fall 2008 and contains moderately priced sportswear pieces, shoes, accessories and more formal dresses, styled for a Southern woman in a "modern, feminine and style-savvy" way. The collection will be available through the holiday season.

In the release, Davis added, "I'm looking forward to taking my brand in a new direction and I am excited about the possibilities that lie ahead."

Any of you ladies where her line? What do you think?

Jon Gosselin: Kate Constantly Abused Me

With Kate Gosselin spilling her heart out about her failed marriage, Jon Gosselin has been gaining a bad rep for taking his new-found freedom to the party scene. Well, now he's finally speaking out about their relationship and why he had to get away from his wife's abuse. "I was verbally abused. I was beaten down," the 32-year-old 'Jon and Kate Plus 8' dad said on Good Morning America. Watch the video:

"She separated me from my family. She used to hold the kids over my head and say, 'Don't spend time with your mom, spend time with your kids.' Why can't I spend time with my mom and kids together?" he said. "Our relationship will never be fixed. I think down the road we might be friends, but at this point in time I don't think so," he said.

"It's just like the change from America's favorite dad to dirt-bag. Tomorrow I could be maybe... America's favorite dad again. It could be after this interview. I don't know. Whatever they want to write, let them write it. They're going to write it anyway. I've learned that lesson," he added.

In a statement to ABC News, Kate said she did believe in drawing a line between public and private. "While I certainly have a very different perception of how our marriage dissolved, for the sake of my children I maintain that I'm not going to go into details of aspects I believe should remain private," she said.

McDonald's Can't Stop McCurry from Using 'Mc'

In a fast-food version of David versus Goliath, the owner of a small curry restaurant in Malaysia has won the final bout in an eight-year trademark battle against the world's largest fast-food giant, McDonald's.

The restaurant facing the suit operates under the name McCurry, short for "Malaysian Chicken Curry," and was the first Indian fast food restaurant to open in 1999 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia -- serving dishes such as chicken curry, fish head curry, naan and biryani.

McDonald's wanted sole rights to the use of the prefix "Mc" to protect its brand image but the Federal Court ruled Tuesday that the fast-food chain had no such exclusive rights.

"We feel great that this eight-year legal battle is finally over, and we can now go ahead with whatever we plan to do, such as opening new branches," McCurry owner A.M.S.P. Suppiah told Reuters.

Jon Gosselin Accuses Kate of Stealing His Wedding Ring

Kate Gosselin didn't just steal a decade of estranged hubby Jon Gosselin's life – she also swiped his wedding ring, Jon claims.

Jon, 32, blasted his soon-to-be-ex on Good Morning America Monday in the latest of what's become a series of tirades. He also announced that he despises Kate, 34, who he says filled their many years of marriage with anger and abuse.

It's a long way from only a couple weeks ago, when he said he still loved her.

Almost as bad, he says, she stole his wedding band. He put down the ring one day only to have it disappear – and Kate's the only person who could have taken it, he says.

The stars of the reality show Jon & Kate Plus 8, which details their lives raising eight children, filed for divorce in June.
