Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit - Madonna channeling her inner Donnie Darko?

What was this hot mess?   Was Madonna channeling her inner Donnie Darko?
This outfit reminds me of that rabbit from the movie Donnie Darko.  What do you think?

ATV spoiler alert: 'Smallville' finale sneak! 'Bones' sex twist! 'Grey's' wedding scoop!

The Grim Reaper is about to make an unwelcome pit stop in Smallville, and, if I'm not mistaken, the blockbuster trailer The CW cut together for the May 14 season finale comes very close to identifying at least one of the victims. I could be wrong. Don't think I am, though. Watch the latest episode of Ausiello TV and judge for yourself (hint: it features an exclusive first look at said trailer. You can thank me later, Smallville fans.)

Also in the new ATV: Fresh details about Booth and Brennan's season-ending hookup on Bones, and a Grey's-themed wedding present for Mer-Der fans.

The Great Sci-Fi Divide: Why don't we want science fiction on TV?

Photo Credit: Timothy White; Dekker: Frank Ockenfels/Fox

Two weeks ago, Fox aired what was probably the final episode of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, a pretty solid sci-fi show which nevertheless suffered from guttery ratings. Two weeks from now, Terminator Salvation will premiere in theaters -- where it will likely make somewhere in the vicinity of $90 million in its first weekend, regardless of how "good" it is. Two separate extentions of the same franchise: one will be labeled a failure, the other a ginormous hit. Why?

Why don't we want science fiction on television anymore?

Think about it. In years past viewers had plenty of sci-fi TV options: The X-Files, Star Trek: The Next GenerationStar Trek: Deep Space NineBabylon 5Quantum LeapThe Twilight Zone,Knight Rider, hell, even SeaQuest went more than one season. Today, Dollhouse is on life-support (following the Firefly pattern), Terminator and Chuck are all but canceled, Pushing Daisies and Life on Mars were shot down; heck, even Battlestar Galactica ended its run barely holding on to its eroding viewership. And most of the sci-fi that is still on the air barely looks like it: Lost became a hit because ABC sold it as a desert-island mystery thriller, not as science fiction; Fringe gets by as either a police procedural or an X-Files homage.

Even the Sci Fi Channel doesn't want to be called sci-fi anymore, despite being home to Eureka, the Stargate franchise, and next year's Caprica.

What is it about science fiction that home viewers are turned off by? It can't be the genre itself: If you look at the top 10 grossing movies of all time, six of them are sci-fi (and the others have pirates, hobbits, and ogres...and, yes, a boat). Clearly, the American public loves their science fiction...why don't they want it on a regular basis, piped into their living rooms, for free?

I don't have an answer to this. I wish I did, because then I could buy my own tropical island and stock it with nubile castaways and smoke monsters. But I'll bet Hollywood wishes it did, too. Do you have any clue, any insight as to why the literature of ideas can no longer find a foothold on the air? Have we, as a society, just become too -- gulp -- stupid for science fiction?

Farrah Fawcett: NBC News to air 'Farrah's Story' special on May 15

NBC News will air Farrah's Story, a two-hour special chronicling actress Farrah Fawcett's battle against cancer, on Friday, May 15, from 9-11 p.m. ET. Billed as "an extremely personal look at her battle with cancer," the show will be narrated by the former Charlie's Angels star, who has sought treatment in the U.S. and Germany. Friends including Ryan O'Neal (Fawcett's longtime companion, who is also fighting cancer), Jaclyn Smith, Kate Jackson, and Alana Stewart (who coproduced and shot most of the show) will also appear.

American Idol: Final Four

Guns n' Roses superstar Slash stopped by the Idol studio to help the Final Four bring out their inner hard rockers. Which performer had your head banging, and which one deserves to go home?   I have to admit, I liked the added "Duet" songs that the show added this season.  I also think that Adam & Allison slammed the ball right out of the court with their duet while Kris & Danny just didn't do it for me at all.  Now don't get me wrong, they are both very talented but talent isn't enough in this industry - they just don't have that "spark".  Whereas, Adam has enough show driven spark to start a mini nova and Allison is a good runner up.  Overall, in the end I see it coming down to Adam & Allison and my vote is on Adam to win BUT you never know on this machine called Idol, could be dark horse Allison who comes up from behind to claim the crown for herself!
