Ridley Scott to direct 'Alien' prequel

Acclaimed director Ridley Scott is returning to his roots in science fiction. Variety is reporting that Scott (Gladiator, Blade Runner) has signed up to lens the long-awaited prequel to his classic 1979 fright flick Alien, a coup that is being touted by 20th Century Fox as part of its big budget reboot of the groundbreaking horror franchise. The plot of the new film will precede the events of the original film, in which the space crew of a commerical towing ship is overcome by a parasitic species of murderous alien creatures.

I'm all for it.  Can we bring back Sigourney Weaver in some capacity because that would be so COOL!

Obama's Doctor Opposes Health Care Plan

President Barack Obama often talks about all of the forces lining up against his health care plan. But there's one critic who has remained relatively mum in the debate. David Scheiner, a Chicago-based doctor, has taken a hard look at the president's prescription for health care reform and sees bad medicine.

"This isn't that kind of health care program that I think is going to work," he said.

So what makes Scheiner so special? He was Obama's personal physician for 22 years, and voted for the then Illinois senator in the 2008 presidential election.

Scheiner thinks the president's plan doesn't go far enough.

"If I had to say the single one thing which is the worst part of it, is that private insurers continue to be a part of the health scheme," he said. "Everybody keeps saying we don't want the government getting involved in health care. [But] the government is involved in Medicare, and it works."

Scheiner would rather see the nation adopt a single-payer system like the ones in Canada and Europe. The financing system relies on one "payer" -- which could be a government-run agency -- to fund all health care costs billed by doctors, hospitals and other health professionals.

Robocna: Robot With an iPhone Head

Kondo robots have received worldwide media attention, including coverage of gladiator-style Kondo robo-battles to the death. Perhaps in an effort to deter a future rebellion of those battle-hardened Kondo-Bots against their human enslavers, a group of crazy re-animators have decapitated a KHR-2HV model and replaced its plotting, hateful dome with a harmless iPhone.

Sharks Kill Rehabilitated Dolphin

Tragedy struck off Florida's Dunedin Causeway yesterday, when a six-year-old dolphin was attacked and killed by sharks. Even worse -- this all happened mere hours after the seemingly cursed Bottlenose was re-released into open waters by a team of marinelife rehabilitators who had spent the past several months bringing the dolphin back from the brink of death.  Sorry Flipper but it appears that you have become Shark food!

Cheerleader Sues Over Facebook Privacy Invasion

When it comes to Facebook, there's a simple rule of thumb that people seem to always forget: If you don't want someone to see a photo or read a comment, don't post it. Had this rule been applied more often, there'd be fewer lawsuits stemming from content posted on the social-networking giant.

According to Ars Technica, high school cheerleader Mandi Jackson has filed suit through her parents against the Pearl, Mississippi school district after she was allegedly forced to turn over her Facebook log-in information to her cheerleading coach on September 10, 2007. The lawsuit claims she was also subjected to cruel and unusual punishment after the coach disseminated "profanity-laced" messages to the rest of the staff, after Jackson had exchanged notes with a fellow cheerleader about politics within the squad.

Jackson is claiming that this discussion -- which she intended to keep private and was allegedly sent via personal message -- was then shared with other school officials and administrators, who "reprimanded, punished, and humiliated" her. She told the Student Press Law Center: "I would have been completely fine with the school officials looking at my public [profile on] Facebook, but I think they went too far with getting my password and looking at my personal messages between me and my peers."

Take heed, young and old alike, be careful what you post, and be even more careful about who might see it. Oh, and, as a rule, don't give your log-in information to anyone, even your coaches or teachers, lest you suffer this terrible fate.

Cops Accused of trying to Frame a Woman

Four cops in Hollywood, Florida, are accused of trying to frame a woman over a fender-bender. Now come on now is this really news to anyone?  Things like this have been going on for years in some places.  And while not all cops are dishonest there are those few that give a bad name to the profession.  I think this kinda outlines the whole problem with the police forces.  There is this "Wall of Blue" that goes up and that is used amongst cops themselves.  So I ask, how is this any different than the common street thug or mobster?  Really it's not but has become an accepted part of life.

How can we expect cops to take criminals off the street when they themselves dally in questionable behavior and subscribe to a code ("Wall of Blue") that goes contrary to their duties?
