Yes, Looks Do Matter

FOR more than a week now, people on both sides of the Atlantic have been using the story of Susan Boyle — the dowdy Scottish spinster who sang her way to fame on “Britain’s Got Talent” TV show — as an example of just how shallow we’ve become.

Which may be why, even as she expressed the hope that “maybe this could teach them a lesson, or set an example,” Ms. Boyle has begun to change her appearance in recent days, wearing makeup, dying her frizzy gray hair, and appearing in more stylish clothing.

  1. It's a shame but we all know that it is true. Looks unfortunately do matter. Think of all the persons who really do have talent but just because they are not what the media glamorizes as "it" they never get the chance. Same can be said in the workplace. Ever notice how the guys just fawn over the pretty girls with the short short skirts and no talent or brains at all? No escaping it.

  2. I liked her better the other way. I could see her wanting to color her hair because I'm sure she did so in the past. They are just trying to make her more marketable now.

  3. wouldn't it just be funny if it was all a hoax. I mean come on didn't anyone listen to how she sounded before the judging process? don't they cast these things like with American Idol?? I think they knew that she would sound great beforehand.
